[ARCHIVED] US-1 Bike Lane Widening Project

The FDOT’s US-1 Bike Lane Widening project has begun. The project will widen the existing bike lanes from 3 feet to 5 feet from Sample Road north to the Broward County / Palm Beach County line. It also includes new pavement, pavement markings, various sidewalk repairs and ADA sidewalk ramp improvements. The project shrinks the medians in US-1 by 2 feet on both sides to gain the necessary space to widen the bike lanes.

One inside lane in each direction will be closed intermittently (2,500 feet at a time) on Federal Highway from Sample Road to the Broward / Palm Beach County Line for median widening. This closure may be in place for approximately three months.

Construction activities associated with the widening will take place Monday through Friday, from 7 am to 5 pm Beginning the week of April 27th, the contractor will be working on the next segment on Federal Highway from NE 44th Street to NE 49th Street and SE 10th Street to SE 2nd Court. Several median crossovers along Federal Highway will be temporarily closed during construction. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained using the closest median opening or intersection.
