Charter Review Committee

The Charter Review Committee was established by Mayor Kyle Van Buskirk and confirmed by the City Commission on November 8, 2022 by Resolution 2022-2480.

There shall be a Charter Review Committee appointed by resolution by the City Commission authorized to review and propose changes to the Charter of government for the City of Lighthouse Point commencing no less than once every ten (10) years. The City Commission may appoint a Charter Review Committee by resolution at any time it determines there is a need prior to the commencement of the ten (10) year period.

The Charter Review Committee consists of ten (10) members. Each member shall be a qualified elector and resident of the City of Lighthouse Point and shall have resided within the City for a period of not less than one (1) year prior to his/her appointment.  

Amendment Process

The Committee is authorized to review and propose changes to the Charter of government for the City of Lighthouse Point. 

The Charter Review Committee will determine whether any amendments, alterations or revisions are needed to the current City Charter. 

Any recommended or proposed changes will then be presented to the City Commission for approval. 

Upon approval a referendum will be held where an amendment will be presented to the electorate for final adoption.
